During this trip, you will start from Budapest and after trekking through the three ranges (Buda, Pilis and Visegrád), cycle through untouched valleys and over meadows to arrive at the town of Szentendre, a lively town of arts with a lovely Mediterranean ambiance |
Day 1 Arrival in Budapest After your arrival to Budapest airport, you are transferred to your hotel in the city. You have the rest of the day free to explore the city | |
|
Day 2 The Buda Hills After breakfast, you pack your rucksack for the day - your main luggage is transferred to the next hotel during the day. You take the cogwheel railway to get up over the city. From here, you bike along well-marked paths past the popular excursion and lookout points over Budapest and can taste some local specialties at roadside buffets. Leaving the city, you bike along forest roads past small villages until you arrive to Pilisszentkereszt, where you stay at a pretty little pension |

Day 3 From Pilisszentkereszt to Visegrád On this day, you reach the Pilis range and climb up to Dobogókő, the most popular excursion spot of the range. En route, you visit a rocky outcrop from where you can see as far North as Esztergom, the former capital and seat of the archbishop of Hungary. In Dobogókő, you can enjoy some local food for lunch and take a detour to enjoy the view the Visegrád range to the North. Biking on, you enter the Visegrád range and arrive to the town of Visegrád, former capital and strong point of the border of the Roman empire. As you descend to town, you can visit the Citadel overlooking the Danube Bend |

Day 4 From Visegrád to Budapest Starting from your pension on the Danube bank, you climb back up into the Visegrád range and then turn South in direction Szentendre. Biking trough the undisturbed forests without villages, without paved roads, you are most likely to see boars, deer and other game, stopping at meadows and springs to refresh yourself. Finally you descend to Szentendre, a colourful artist's town with a Mediterranean ambience on the Danube bank full of galleries, cafés and museums.
