RIDERS OF CARPATHIAN BASSINprice from 499 €
Hungary - Horse-riding - 8 days

During this programme, you can discover the hills of the Gerecse, an authentic and unspoilt Hungarian region just by the Slovakian border and in the Westernmost part of the Carpathian mountains. You will ride through a discovery of a rich and abundant wildlife; chances are good that you will see some roes, deers and large predatory birds. You will gallop and trot through forests and meadows in the tracks of Count Sándor Móric, visiting some typical, historical villages. In the evening, by the campfire, the Hungarian cuisine will complete this pleasant tour...

Program
Day 1 Into the West
Our route today leads us Westwards through a surreal, dark forest like out of a fairytale. Our destination today, the small village of Héreg was already inhabited in the Roman times.

Day 2 Arrival in Budapest
Meet point at the airport of the Hungarian capital – also called Pearl of the Danube –, transfer to the ‘Öregmajor’ farm in the North-West of Hungary, not far from the Slovakian border. Travel time: approximately 1 hours 45 minutes. Depending on arrival time, the horses are assigned and you can make a short ride in the area. Dinner and night in the Öregmajor.

Day 3 from Öregmajor to Bajot
On the first day, you discover the beauty of the surrounding hills with their panes, meadows and forests varying the landscape. Crossing some creeks will give horse and rider an opportunity to refresh themselves. The day ends with a visit of a once inhabited cave from the Stone Age. Dinner and night in the village of Bajot.

Day 4 Riding on the Danube shore
After breakfast, we leave the village of Bajot to visit Péliföldszentkereszt where a church from the Middle Age and a ‘sacred’ well from the 12th century await us. By the afternoon, we ride back to the Danube shore. Attention! If you can not pronounce the name of the destination village, you will have to skip dinner!

Day 5 Gallop to Bajna
This is a long day in the saddle South with long, unforgettable gallops across the fields. We visit the small castle of Count Sándor Móric, also known as the ‘demonic rider’ who used to ride right into the house on his horse. Dinner and night in the village of Bajna.

Day 6 riding high
After climbing back into the saddle in the morning, we head North in the direction of the top of the Gerecse mountain at 633 metres. Though this is not an exceptional height for a mountaintop, it does offer a beautiful view on the Danube river and the route we have completed so far. Dinner and night in the village of Pusztamarót.

Day 7 return to the Öregmajor
The last stage of our route leads us back to the Öregmajor through the thick forests. In the autumn, you may even have the luck of spotting some deer. Dinner and night at the farm.

Day 8 Back to home
Transfer back to Budapest and departure by air
