During this trip we will discover the South-eastern part of Transylvania. You will ski in Bucegi Mountains and in Piatra Craiului Mountains.

Hut-to-hut ski touring involves travelling through mountain landscape in winter giving access to wild, isolated mountain, remote and pristine landscape that is rarely experienced by resort-based skiers.

The Carpathian Mountains are fantastic places for ski touring with very varied terrain. A network of traditional huts provides the best service without having to carry your luggage or to book our overnights.

A journey in the middle of pastoral tradition in complete osmosis with a wild nature sheltering brown bears, chamois, wolves and lynxes.

Program
Day 1 Arrive Bucharest, train to Brasov and transfer to the Piatra Craiului National Park
The trip starts in Bucharest. Welcome at the airport. Transfer (~3.5h) at the foot of Piatra Craiului Mountains. Night in guesthouse at the foot of Piatra Craiului mountain.

Day 2 the ''King`s stone''
A warm up ride with "picture post-card" landscapes, will allow us to discover the surroundings of Zarnesti and the piedmont of this beautiful mountain of “Piatra Craiului”. Night in the same guesthouse as the night before.

Day 3 Barsa valley
Today we will ride along the stunning Northern ridge of Piatra Craiului, on Barsa valley that separates Piatra Craiului of Persani mountains, so close and so different. Along the way we will visit an ancient monastic shrine built in a cave. We end our ride in a very nice mountain hut on Barsa valley.

Day 4 Away from civilization
From Plaiul Foii we will have a short transfer than we will enter in the heart of the national park through the Jurassic canyon of Zarnesti Gorges. We will ride up and we enter in a wild tract of dense forest where we look for tracks, signs and markings left by large carnivores and other wild animals. A hot meal will wait for us at the Curmatura hut, in a beautiful environement. Night in a traditional guesthouse in a typical mountain village.

Day 5 Legends of Transylvania
Today we descend to Bran where we can visit Bran Castle, better know like "Dracula" Castle. For many years the castle was home to Queen Mary, Queen Victoria of England’s granddaughter. Than we will cross the historical border between the old principalities of Wallachia and Transylvania. We go up to Fundatica, a Romanian traditional mountain village with many small and ancient houses, at the foot of Bucegi mountains. The inhabitants are livestock breeders; therefore the village has a long time tradition in cheese preparing.

Day 6 In Postavaru mountain
The traverse of Postavaru mountain will happen through forests and alpine pasture, Ski descent till the heart of Brasov city, that was founded in the XIII century when the Teutonic Knights were sent here by the order of Andrew II of Hungary to fortify the border. You will be definitely charmed by its old center. Night in a small hotel in the center.

Day 7 Waking up in Bucharest, trip concludes
Transfer to the Bucharest airport (~3.5h). Possible extra-night to visit Bucharest.

The main ski touring season here generally runs from December until March. Depending on weather and ground conditions, you can enjoy fantastic skiing on powder or corn snow as well as more challenging skiing!
